Research Experience

Graduate Research Assistant

Florida Atlantic University
August 2019- Present
  • Proficient in data analysis, data interpretation and scientific communication as demonstrated by published papers, research seminar presentations, grant writing.
  • Designed and executed drug efficacy studies utilizing mice models of Alzheimer’s disease. Mice models of AD studied: 3xTg AD, App23, Tg2576.
  • Performed of Bilateral typical carotid artery Occlusion (BCAO) surgery in rodents’ model of stroke.
  • Performed different rodent behavior tests in mice to assess the efficacy of drug candidates. Behavioral test utilized: Morris water maze (Spatial reference memory, Working memory, memory extinction and cognitive flexibility), Force plate actometer, open field test (Locomotor activity, Behavioral and psychological symptoms of dementia), Rotarod (motor coordination and strength), Radial maze (working memory).
  • Extensive experience performing trans-cardiac perfusion in mice using paraformaldehyde followed by cryostat sectioning for Immunohistochemistry and immunofluorescence.
  • Performed and excelled at multiple biochemical tests such as Western blot, immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence, PCR, and RT-qPCR. Skills acquired include the ability to troubleshoot, design probes and primers, select and troubleshoot antibodies and their expression, and analyze and interpret data.
  • Proficiency in acquiring images, analyzing data, and trouble systems such as the Nikon N-SIM super-resolution system with A1+confocal on the Eclipse Ti2 microscope, Nikon A1R multiphoton with FN1 Upright microscope, and the Zeiss LSM 700 confocal system. Proficient with image analysis systems such as NIH ImageJ-FIJI, NIS-element with advanced research 5.0 and deconvolution module, and Amira 3D image reconstruction software.
  • Proficient in data analysis using GraphPad Prism, Image Studio, R programming, and Python (Basic)-ongoing)
  • Expensive experience in neuronal culture and differentiation protocols using multiple cell lines, including PC-12, SH-SY5Y, astrocytes, and microglia cultures. Proficient in cell viability assay such as ATP and MTT and cellular toxicity assay such as LDH assay.
  • Extensive experience with laboratory management and supervision including inventory management of lab animals (mice), chemical inventory management, management of lab personals, and ordering lab reagents, among other things
  • Experience in engagement with laboratory regulatory agencies (IUCAC, IRB, Environmental Health & Safety, and the research integrity offices) for lab inspections and removal/improvement of deficiencies.

Mentorship and training

  • Trained and mentored 15+ new and existing research associates (prospective Ph.D., graduate, undergraduate, and High School students, and research volunteers) on laboratory techniques such as animal surgeries, animal behavior tests, biochemical tests, as wells as data analysis and interpretations.
  • Mentored 100+ Graduate teaching assistants in teaching undergraduate students in biology Laboratory classes, including leading weekly teaching team meetings, demonstrating teaching methods, and demonstrating laboratory techniques.

Instructor

Florida Atlantic University

Instruct the Brain Diseases, Mechanisms, and Therapy (BMS6736) class to PhD and graduate students as a substitute instructor for my PhD mentor. The course entails neurodegenerative brain diseases such as AD, HD, PD, stroke, and MS.

Instructor of Record, Teaching Team Mentor

Florida Atlantic University

Played a pivotal role in mentoring graduate teaching assistants, overseeing the instruction of undergraduate biology and neuroscience labs. My responsibilities extend to collaborating on curriculum development and integrating new educational technologies. Additionally, I facilitate the coordination between a large cohort of biology students and financial aid services, ensuring an optimal learning experience and working with Student Accessibility Services to support student needs.

Supplemental Instruction (SI) Leader

Florida Atlantic University

Collaborate with Undergraduate class instructors to supplement traditional lectures in challenging undergraduate disciplines such as Physics, Chemistry (organic and general), biochemistry, and biology classes. Prepare teaching materials, sample tests, and exam reviews for each exam and lead the study groups. Every semester, 100’s of students were guided in this role.

Visiting Instructor of Molecular Biology

Keiser University

Develop and instruct undergraduate courses in Molecular Biology and Advanced biology. Work closely with students to provide individualized mentoring for research projects .

Graduate Teaching Assistant

Florida Atlantic University

Teach undergraduate biology and neuroscience core labs, prepare instructional materials and examinations, create rubrics, and mark exams and essay. Prep the Lab for experiments before and de-prep the lab after completion of lab sessions. The prepping lab includes preparing media, reagents, to-be-dissected specimens, bacterial and viral cultures, and solutions.

Tutor

Broward College
  • Addressed tutoring needs of associate-level students in biology, physics, and mathematics.
